PROCESSING CHANGE FOR PACIFIC QUOTA AND FAMILY RESIDENCE APPLICATIONS FOR PACIFIC PEOPLE ALREADY IN NEW ZEALAND
Immigration New Zealand has closed its Auckland Pacific Branch in Manukau. Instead, from 1 January 2012, the three Pacific branches will process applications lodged by Pacific people already in New Zealand. Specifically, this will involve:
• All existing Samoa Quota, Pacific Access Category or Family Residence applications where no decision has been made.
• All new Samoa Quota, Pacific Access Category and Family Residence applications.
These applications may be lodged in person at, or by courier or post to, one of the Pacific branches or your nearest Immigration New Zealand branch in New Zealand. The change doesn’t affect how applications will be processed. It only affects where they will be processed.

Community updates
Pacific language weeks in 2012
It’s likely that there will be a growth in language weeks in 2012. Alongside the longstanding Maori Language Week, recent years have seen the successful establishment of Samoan Language Week, NZ Sign Language Week and (last year) Tongan and Cook Island Language Weeks.
Interest in having a week to celebrate and share their language next year has been expressed by the Fijian, Tokelauan, Cook Island, Niuean, Chinese and Indian communities. Maori Language Week is set for 23-27 July, Samoan Language Week for 27 May to 2 June and NZ Sign Language Week on 30 April to 6 May 2012.
If your community is planning a language week, let the Human Rights Commission know the date and they will help you to publicise it. Email nzdiversity@hrc.co.nz with the details.
